How to scan your Computer for malware in Safe Mode | Hunting for threats

What is Malware? 

It is nothing but a software used by hackers for different purposes like to gain unauthorized access to your computer, damage your PC. 


What is Safe Mode?

Safe mode is a mode where your pc starts windows in basic state where it uses limited files and drivers. It is helpful for troubleshooting and virus and Malware detection purpose because most of the applications and drivers stay disabled in this state. 


What are the advantages to scan for malwares in Safe Mode? 

As we mentioned above that malware is itself a software and most of the software stay disabled in safe mode. Also, the infected files are disabled in this state, so it is much easier for us to detect and remove malware and other viruses from our system. In general mode if any other applications are used by malwares and viruses sometimes it is hard to remove it directly. So, in that case we prefer to do it in Safe Mode.

How to remove Malware in Safe Mode: 


Step 1

First you have to download McAfee Malware Cleaner tool and then save it into your flash drive. Always use a fresh download to get up to date McAfee  application. 



Step 2

Press the windows button and R button together from your keyboard to open Run Box, then type 'msconfig' and press enter. This will bring up System Configuration. 




then click on boot tab and check the safe boot option and press apply then ok. Next clicks restart now to boot pc in safe mode. Once you are in safe mode follow step 3. 


Step 3 

Insert the flash drive where you have downloaded the Malware cleaner tool and scan the whole computer for malware and viruses in safe mode. Then follow the steps to remove threats. 


Once everything is done, restart your computer in Normal mode and then run a full scan again with McAfee virus removal tool to make sure that every infection is removed properly from your computer. Now you are good to go! 

If you do not know how to go back to normal mode from safe mode, then follow these steps below: 

Press and hold Windows button then press button 'R' from your keyboard to open run box in safe mode.

Type 'msconfig' and hit enter to open system configuration. 

On system configuration window select the 'Boot' tab.

Uncheck the Safe boot option, apply the settings. 

Click restart now to restart your PC in Normal mode.
