What is Computer?

A computer is an electronic device that accepts input in different forms like commands, data, codes and work on it according to the sets of instruction to produce the output. In general words a computer is an electronic device which makes your work easier.

History of Computer

There are many different opinions on the history of computer, but the evolution comes from the early mechanical calculating machines to the modern day's advance digital system.

Charles Babbage is considered as the "Father of Computer" as he first conceptualized and invented the first mechanical computer. The concept of digital programmable computer comes from him.

What are the two basic parts of a computer?

A computer has mainly two different parts 1. Software 2. Hardware

In software there are Operating System (Windows, MacOS, Linux), Application software, Drivers etc.

In hardware there are many physical parts like Motherboard, RAM, SMPS, CPU, GPU, Hard disk, Cooling fan, Monitor or display, Mouse, Keyboard etc.

What are the different types of Computers?

When we hear the word computer the first thing that comes into mind is a desktop computer. But computer comes in many different shapes and sizes. Some other types of computers are Laptop computer, Tablet computer, Server computer, Palmtop computer. Smartphones, Smartwatches, Game Consoles are also in this category.

Based on data handling capacity computers can be categorized as Analog Computers, Digital Computers, Hybrid Computers.

Based on the size of computers, it is categorized as 1. Micro Computer 2. Minicomputer 3. Mainframe Computer 4. Workstation 5. Supercomputer

Micro Computer: very small in size and can be embedded in different electronic devices.

Mini Computer: mini computers are used in different administrative tasks word processing, process control etc.

Mainframe Computer: It is in a size of a refrigerator and mainly used in enterprise-level businesses for batch processing.

Workstation: A high-performance computer system for a single professional user.

Supercomputer: A computer that has highest level of performance as compared to any other computers.
