What is Group policy and Local group policy editor in Windows computer?

What is Group policy and Local group policy editor in Windows PC? 

If I ask you, do you know what Group policy is in a Windows Computer. Or if I see you using the Group policy editor and I ask what exactly you are doing with this GUI tool, you might not answer it correctly. 

Many windows users now or then use this group policy editor, but they do not know what exactly they are doing with it. 

Well, Group policy is 'group of policy setting' in windows computer and these settings are actually work with the registry settings of your Local system. 

Group Policy Objects (GPOs) holds all these group policy settings. That means all group policy settings of your windows system are there inside GPOs.

What is the location of Group Policy? 

Registry.pol file is generated by Group Policy Objects to store policies. 
The location of Group Policy in your local system is C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy but this folder is hidden by default. To view it, you first have to change the setting for hidden files and folders. 

To change the settings first go to Control Pannel then search for File Explorer Options and click on it. Then click on the view tab. 

Now select the option 'Show hidden files, folders and drives', then apply the settings. 

The location of Registry.pol file is C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\Registry.pol 


What is Local Group Policy Editor?    

Local Group Policy Editor is Microsoft Management Console snap-in that gives you the ability to manage Local Group Policy settings. 

To open group policy editor just press and hold the Windows button, then press the button 'R'. This will bring up the RUN BOX. Now type 'gpedit.msc' and hit enter.
