What should not you do as a Windows PC user?

What shouldn't you do as a Windows PC user?

Are you a new Windows PC user? or have you been using Windows PC for a long period of time? I do not know which type of windows PC user you are but, in this article, I will discuss something that you should not do as a windows PC user.

Do not turn off PC directly by pressing Power Button

This is the first thing one pc user should not do no matter which operating system they are using. Turning off pc directly by pressing power button may cause data loss, or it may cause corrupted files in your windows operating system. Though todays modern operating systems are smart enough to handle this type of shut down but still some risks are there. So, always turn off windows pc in the correct way.

Just click on the Windows icon, then click on the Power icon and then click Shut down.

Do not turn off Windows Defender and Firewall

You should not turn off windows defender and firewall in any cause. In some cases, you might have noticed that some application download needs your windows defender to be turned off. But remember if you do so, you are actually compromising with your real-time protection.

If such application download is necessary, then use a virtual Windows environment to download it.

Do not forget to check for regular Windows update

Try to keep your Windows PC up to dated. These updates are essential software patches from Microsoft, and they are for security of your operating system. So, update your windows system whenever its needed.

Do not switch to another user without signing out the Current user

Generally, windows PC should have one Administrator account and multiple standard user accounts. No matter you are a system admin or not, you are connected to a network or not, never leave your user account signed in. Do not forget to sign it out when you are done working with it, especially when one single pc is used by multiple users. Let me explain why!

Suppose One windows pc has multiple users, and that pc is in an office. Each of the user has their own important data. Now if person A is working on User A account on that pc and suddenly person B come and asks person A to leave that pc for a while. The User B account is for person B. So, if person A simply click on windows logo and switch to user B account without signing out his user A account then what would happen (all accounts are password protected).

When person A leaves, now person B will input his password and will sign in to his account. But in the background User A account is still active (in disconnected state). You can check this by going to Task manager and then users tab.

In such scenario Windows session hijacking is possible. It means someone can get access to user A without having the password as it is still an active session in the background.

So never leave your user account signed in. Always sign out of your account then leave the PC.

Do not modify windows registry without having a backup

Windows registry is a database of settings related to different software and Hardwares. People often try to modify registry by simply watching a YouTube video or by reading a tech blog. But one wrong modification in registry can destroy the whole Windows OS.

So, what should you do? Always take a backup of your windows registry and keep it in a safe place.

Goto registry editor, click on file and export it.

Do not download software from untrusted websites!

Windows operating system is vulnerable to different cyber-attacks. Untrusted websites may contain malicious software that are harmful for your computer. So, do not download software from untrusted websites. Always use the official website to download any program for your windows computer.

Do not save password on your Local computer

This is not a good practice to save your login details in your windows computer. Neither you should store your encryption private key on a windows PC. People often store their login details on their windows pc in text format. That is very risky. Always use a removable storage like flash drive to store your private key or login credentials.
